Pour some coffee or pick your poison and take 5 from your busy life to just be....But I do warn you tho, buckle up....I have some shit to say and I would love to hear your feedback or start a conversation about some of the topics as they come up! Enjoy xxx
Hi everyone and welcome to my blog......it's something I have wanted to do for a very long time, but have shied away from it for many reasons?...... Lack of confidence, fear of judgment, not having anything to say, then having everything to say.....How do share what you want to say when what you say is an oxymoron? I can be really complicated and sometimes really simple...... I don't know? There are many things that have blocked me from being inspired and saying what I feel. But here I am....swallowing my pride, trying to find some time in Life to actually sit down and write what I feel whilst doing mental arithmetic in my head, writing shopping lists, folding washing, mowing lawns and working.... to anyone in daily Life you know how it is......But I also realise the value in saying what you want to say and having your voice heard.....
So if you please, sit with me a while, take some time out from Life and follow along with me. I have some things I would love to share with you.....Topics that need to be covered, shit that needs to be said, acknowledged or even just heard! But also bringing together the solidarity of like minded thinkers who feel this shit in their Soul. Who want to create changes in themselves and in the the World......Planting seeds with their Minds and Hearts and watering them together for now and in the future.....I hope in some ways this inspires you to take some time out of your busy Life to find your voice and inspiration to do what you feel you need to do for you to be heard!
Inspiration
noun
1. someone or something that gives you ideas for doing something.
2. is the act or power of exercising an elevating or stimulating influence upon the intellect or emotions; the result of such influence which quickens or stimulates; as, the inspiration of occasion, of art, etc.
Something that keeps coming up for me lately and means a lot to me, whilst I have been preparing a business plan for the next part of my business adventures, has been the way that we conduct business......I recently went to a business consultant to get some advice on running my business successfully to thrive not just survive, and he asked me all the usual questions about budgets, how much is your products/services, profit margins, target markets, what sells what doesn't?.....blah blah blah all the mundane bullshit I really hate that is part of everyday business. But this mundane stuff is also used to specify your corporate identity to the public, and whether your business is viable to make a profit and survive. All these topics I usually run away from as I absolutely hate this side of business with a passion. I want to stick to the real stuff that makes everything honest, authentic and beautiful and just get on with my work. My service. Budgets, ordering, marketing, paperwork, etc = sucks ass! But it has really got me thinking about how business is run, why we do what we do and why are we doing business or "Busy-ness" rather in such a corporate way..?
Especially when my business is actually my Trade???
I was curious about the language we use around business and I thought I would satisfy my curiosity and love of etymology by researching into some of the big words we use for business.....see...I love researching so I do that instead of the required paperwork and the mundane running of my business....I know, I know...I'm trying.. work with me here!
This is what I found.....
Business: noun noun: business; plural noun: the business; plural noun: businesses; noun: busyness; plural noun: busynesses 1. a person's regular occupation, profession, or trade. "experts who typically conduct their business over the Internet" synonyms:work, line of work, line, occupation, profession, career, employment, job, day job, position, pursuit, vocation, calling, field, sphere, walk of life, trade, craft;
Origin
Old English bisignis ‘anxiety’ (see busy, -ness); the sense ‘state of being busy’ was used from Middle English down to the 18th century, but is now differentiated as busyness . The use ‘appointed task’ dates from late Middle English, and from it all the other current senses have developed.
Trade: noun noun: trade; plural noun: trades 1. the action of buying and selling goods and services. 2. a job requiring manual skills and special training. synonyms: craft, occupation, job, day job, career, profession, business, pursuit, living, livelihood, line, line of work, line of business, vocation, calling, walk of life, province, field; verb 1. buy and sell goods and services. 2. exchange (something) for something else, typically as a commercial transaction. "they trade mud-shark livers for fish oil" synonyms:swap, exchange, switch, barter, substitute, replace; archaic. (from https://www.lexico.com/en/definition/business, trade )
I found this next part of my research even more interesting because as I work for myself in my trade I am identified as a Sole Trader........ ( I know I am so not being very productive in my business right now, or am I????)
Sole: noun
Etymology 1
From Middle English sole, soole, from Old English sāl (“a rope, cord, line, bond, rein, door-hinge, necklace, collar”), from Proto-Germanic *sailą, *sailaz (“rope, cable”), *sailō (“noose, rein, bondage”), from Proto-Indo-European *sey- (“to tie to, tie together”). Cognate with Scots sale, saile (“halter, collar”), Dutch zeel (“rope, cord, strap”), German Seil (“rope, cable, wire”), Icelandic seil (“a string, line”). Non-Germanic cognate include Albanian dell (“sinew, vein”).
Etymology 2
From Middle English, from Old English sol (“mire, miry place”), from Proto-Germanic *sulą (“mire, wallow, mud”)
Etymology 3
From earlier sowle (“to pull by the ear”)
Etymology 4
From Middle English sole, soule, from Old French sol, soul (“alone”), from Latin sōlus (“alone, single, solitary, lonely”). Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *swé (reflexive pronoun). Perhaps related to Old Latin sollus (“whole, complete”),
There are many more versions of etymology for the word Sole, but I think you get the drift....it is also interesting to note for the sake of it that the word Sole contains the word Sol, the Latin name for the Sun. But by the above definitions and roots of the word none refer to Sole as light or bright or shining! I do have to laugh as I remember a conversation in a business class I attended once where some one said that Sole Trader sounds like you work for the Devil......! By the above definitions of rope, collar or pulling by the ear, it is not far off that. Being bound by the way you trade......
This has been on my mind now and in the recent past....about how we do business as opposed to being of service or trade your craft. The language we use around business defines how we offer our service, trade or run our type of busyness....What happened to good old fashioned words such as customer service, honour, integrity, wholesome, trust, principles, value, hands on, responsibility, care, you're welcome, help, attention to detail, please and thank you that used to be the core of a good business? Setting the standard for their corporate identity as a pleasure to do business and family businesses that sold integrity? What about important practices such as environmental sustainability, fair trade ethics and social responsibility.......All values which have now become trendy and niche market selling points instead of just the right thing to do because your conscience dictates such practices.....
Social Responsibility being the key topic of choice:
Social Responsibility: Social responsibility is an ethical theory, in which individuals are accountable for fulfilling their civic duty; the actions of an individual must benefit the whole of society. In this way, there must be a balance between economic growth and the welfare of society and the environment. If this equilibrium is maintained, then social responsibility is accomplished. Which brings me to a piece that I wrote 5 years ago that is close to my Heart.....It seems to be more relevant today than it was when I wrote it as the world is shifting in different ways, mostly forward but sometimes we need to express our dreams, needs and wants to remind others of what we have already inside of us, which is morally right or conscious.....Our innate wisdom that we tune into when we become human beings instead of human doings......This is my dream of doing "busyness" in the future and for now finding ways to incorporate this into my trade practice.....A different way of being of service, rather than contributing to the corporate structure of the economy which relies on a hierarchical system that doesn't support a more holistic way of life. A trickle down economy that drip feeds leftovers to the bottom line and does not have the structure of integrity that supports ALL of Life in kind. I don't believe my way is right, or even wrong for that matter. If nothing else, it may actually just bring the topic of Social Responsibility to the table and get people talking and thinking about how WE the people can make change by using our own conscience as a compass to point us in a different direction......
I call this The Gifts and Dreams of Reciprocation.......
Since when did how much money I received each pay define whether or not I could receive care? Care for health, spiritual care or care of the Soul? In a society that defines care as a luxury instead of our birthright, why did so many people not care or even care too much, to create a so called system of care that has caused so much unnecessary stresses and anxiety. Creating ailments that then go on to receive drug treatments or medications that simply don't care! When did we lose our family/village structure of care and become a hierarchy of leverage and power that began to dictate how we care about each other? Why don't we cherish the love in the little things and the effort put in the care of creating with our hands, rather than how much we can earn or buy? Why is our abundance measured only by our ability to pay with cash? It brings tears to my eyes to see how we have not seen how much people have to give or create to show how much they care, but that is set aside due to the strains of a monetary currency society. Sometimes the poorest have the most valuable commodity....Time. The time to care.....
It's absurd that we define ourselves by how much one pays us for a service, rather than how much one gains in love and respect for being of service........So, I want to set the bar really high for myself. I want to offer my services for a Gift. A Gift for how much you think it is worth and what you have gained from my service. This bar I set will allow others to experience my Love, my Service and my Gratitude for allowing me to be of service to them. I will allow my abundance to arrive it many various forms however my needs see fit. Not just financially, but on all levels of needs. We all need to feel loved, feel respected, needed and cherished. To eat, to have a home, warmth, food and medicine. All of these are definitions of abundance. In amongst this is faith. Faith that all is taken care of in your present moment. Faith takes a lot of Courage. It is all in how we see it and how we care!
I want to support others in their journey back to wellness. Back to wholeness. To honor ancient lineages in their journey of healing and transmutation. I want to support your journey back to your Divine origin and show you that I care!
I trust that I will not be taken advantage of, or that my generosity won't be used and abused. Our lives are governed by the Laws of Karma and no goodwill caring or sharing from the heart will go unnoticed. Sometimes our trust and faith are two of the hardest things to put forward in a society based on a value system of self worth defined by money.
Do you trust? Do you trust God? The universe? Or yourself? To manifest all your needs right here right now? To not have to slave to a decrepit value system, but to offer your services and your most valuable commodity Time....in a way that you feel valuable?
I invite everyone to practice what you preach....What goes around comes around and love your neighbour as yourself! Practitioners, service providers and business owners, can you change the way you do business? Can we ALL practice being accessible to those who need it the most? Can we put into practice basic humanity? I encourage you to find new ways to show you care....By giving back what was already given to you. Pay it forward and never look back! You were give freely, so please.... give freely!
This does not mean services should have to be given for free, but rather for an exchange or gift that is seen as affordable. Such as, service for service? Service in exchange for other skills, time or money? Services given for a gift in the name of humanity.
I hope to inspire others to think creatively and outside of the enclosed box we have be so unceremoniously inculcated with. To create ingenious ways of helping each other, take back our power, our services and trade crafts and to teach this to our children and our children's children, for all of the futures that will come to pass.....
Namaste
